The Turkish Film Credits At The Intersection Of Cinema And Graphic Design

This paper aims to explore one of the crucial, nevertheless the most underestimated parts of film making, namely the film titles in Turkish Cinema. As the meeting point of verbal and visual imagery and audio, the film title design mostly consists of several elements such as film footage, typography, graphics and sound. These elements are brought together by the use of different techniques and styles. These tecnhiques and styles are sometimes appropriated or copied from other cinemas and sometimes are uniquely invented; and they range from low-tech and hands-on production to digitized technology. In this article series, the use and evolution of film titles, the processes of film title design and different film title categories are discussed in the light of the interviews with the producers, directors and title designers. The paper will be focusing the technological and industrial aspect of film title design as well as the craftsmen and designers in order to bring together the pieces of the history of film and design collaboration in Turkish context in relation to typography and motion graphics.
